Hadronic decays of the Z0 provide an excellent field for the study of
baryon production. I did this research with the OPAL
detector at LEP.
The study of baryon-antibaryon correlations reveals local baryon number
compensation in quark fragmentation. The measured correlation strength
puts stringent constraints on fragmentation models like JETSET and HERWIG.
The measurement of spin correlations between Lambda-baryons makes the
study of Fermi-Dirac statistic effects possible. The published result, Phys.Lett.B384, 377 (1996), has been cited in
20 publications or more.

| Hadronic Z0 decay into a Lambda anti-Lambda
pair. The event was recorded with the OPAL detector at LEP. Both Lambdas decay inside the central chamber into a proton-pion pair. |
