Comparison of measured and simulated luminosity

Introduction

We compare the simulation of luminosity versus bunch current in the two configurations in which we have spent enough time tuning to be confident that the conditions in the machine are optimized including Phase II CESR at 5.3 GeV, and CESR-c at 1.9GeV/beam. The 5.3GeV data includes was collected near the end of the run on the Upsilon(4s), in the spring of 2001. The CESR-c measurements were taken at the end of October 2004. Both data sets correspond to the highest specific luminosity recorded in those respective conditions.

Model

The 5.3GeV lattice is l9a18a000._moverec . In the simulation we set tunes Qx,..., corresponding to the elog record of machine tunes on March 3, 2001, and with 9 trains of 4 bunches/train. This simulation is with 200 macro particles and 200000 turns. The data is from that same date and both are plotted here . A later simulation with our standard 500 macroparticles and 100000 turns plotted with the same data is essentially the same .

The 1.9GeV lattice is hibetaibnj_20040628_v01.lat . This is the 12 wiggler optics that has been the machine configuration throughout the 12 wiggler run to date. In the model we set the tunes as determined by a simulated luminosity tune scan to ..., and Delta (alpha*) as determined by a simulated scan of luminosity vs SCMATING 1 The data was collected on day 303 of 2004. Luminosity measurements and simulation are here . The count of lost particles versus bunch current indicates a beambeam limiting current less than 3.6 mA/bunch.

The simulation is in good agreement with the measurements.
