CLEO II data recording is controlled by a three level hardware trigger system and a software trigger level that follows data acquisition readout. The design is matched to the single-hit nature of the front-end electronics systems. The performance of the overall system as parameterized by dead-time is limited by this single-hit architecture and by the inability to perform simultaneous front-end acquisition and data readout.
