Celebration of Professor Toichiro Kinoshita's Long Career at Cornell

On June 20, a luncheon was held to honor Emeritus Professor Toichiro (Tom) Kinoshita, who has retired following an extraordinary career of nearly 60 years at Cornell. Prof. Kinoshita made seminal contributions to the development of Relativistic Quantum Field Theory, the theoretical framework underlying all of our modern understanding of elementary particle physics and cosmology. He is particularly renowned for the groundbreaking theoretical calculations of the electron and muon magnetic moments with an unprecedented precision of about 1 part per billion. Together with experimental measurements at a similar level of precision, this work provided an exquisite test of the Standard Model of particle physics. Prof. Kinoshita's work was recognized by many awards such as Sakurai Prize of the American Physical Society and Gian Carlo Wick Gold Medal, as well as membership in the National Academy of Sciences.
