Systems Operator I
The Laboratory for Elementary-Particle Physics at Cornell University is looking for an individual to operate a particle accelerator system in a high-energy physics research laboratory. The individual will assist with maintenance of high current magnets, radio frequency transmitters, computerized controls and instrumentation, and high-voltage, vacuum, and cooling systems, and also have responsibility for technical projects related to improvement of specific accelerator subsystems. Shift work required. High school diploma, plus Associate’s degree, technical/vocational degree, two years of college coursework, or other formal training of one to two years in an appropriate field. Additional preferred qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in physics or engineering, and experience in a laboratory, machine shop, or computing facility. Research Support Specialist IV
Cornell University’s Laboratory for Accelerator-Based Sciences and Education is pleased to announce a position, Research Support Specialist IV, which provides engineering-design, and research and development support for complex particle accelerator systems utilized in the continuous operation of a particle accelerator research facility. This is an initial one year appointment with the possibility of renewal. This position is a member of a group presently responsible for the operation of research accelerators used for X-ray physics, for studies in support of the design of an international High Energy Physics facility and in support of a design of an advanced X-ray physics facility. An applicant should have a Master’s degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering and must have 5-7 years of practical experience as an active team member in electronic circuit design and measurements, and analytical and software skills for design and data analysis. A candidate should also have experience with the interaction with vendors and their engineering design managers, with collaborations at an international level, and with the preparation and presentation of papers at workshops and conferences. Supervisory or instructional experience with technical staff, undergraduate or graduate students is preferred.
